Pickles and Ice Cream!

This weekend Angie, Cary and Katy threw me a precious pickles and ice cream shower. Everything was green and pink and salty and sweet. I had so much fun seeing all of the old friends and family in Waco. I am so blessed to have so many people who not only love me, but who already love baby Lila!

Here are some old friends. Chaney, Brittany, Katy and Lindsey. I have know these girls since kindergarten or before. Most of my childhood memories include them. It was so special to have them there.

The Maxfield family drove into town to come to the shower. The oldest girl, Reagan, was the flower girl at our wenning almost 5 years ago! What beautiful girls.

Here is the table of treats. I loved everything they made, especially the cake balls!

I loved the flowers in the ice cream cones! Look good enough to eat.

Granny hand made this quilt from the same fabric as my bedding. Such a treasure! Thanks for coming all the way to Waco to give it to me!

After the shower, Josh's mom gave him his surprise. She refinished the rocking chair that she used when he was a baby to match our living room. He loved it and has been rocking ever since we got it home.

I've Been Tagged

I was tagged by my sister Caryn. For those unfamiliar with what that means (like me) I have to list 7 random facts about myself. Here goes...

I am embarrassed to say, I named my daughter after Ms. Lila Garrity of Friday Night Lights. I just loved the name!

I never took driver's ed. or passed a driving test! When I was 16 they started the law that parents could teach their children to drive at home. My dad taught me to drive on the HW 84 to Lubbock. (That's probably why I drive too fast). When I went in to take the written driver's test I failed. The next week, when I went back to retake it, they just gave me a license.

I have an crazy fear of alligators. When I was little my cousins tried to scare me and said they were in the lake with us. Then I saw a movie where they attacked people!! For years my sister had to calm me down at night and convince me that no alligator was going to come into our house and get us! Thanks Cary.

I love watching the show One Tree Hill. I realize that most people who watch it are in HS, but it is a guilty pleasure. It's amazing what shows you can get hooked on over the summer watching SOAP network reruns. Gotta love teaching!

I have sort of a weird obsession with Pierce Brosnan. I love watching him in anything he does. Such a hunk!

I love plants, but have a black thumb. I kill almost everything that finds it's way into my house or yard. Even ivy can't survive my horrible watering skills.

Number 7: I love all things monogrammed. Towels, blankets, bags, baby clothes, anything that will stand still. Josh won't allow any more W's in our house.

Elizabeth Franklin Purdy

This past week my precious Granny Liz's went home to be with the Lord. She was an amazing woman, a wonderful grandmother and an even better friend. My memories of her are all happy and treasured.
She was the world's best cook. She made her legendary rum cakes and blueberry muffins every time we went down to visit. It will always amaze me that she was able to make all this wonderful food in an oven with no temperature dial?
She was also one of the most stylish women I have ever met. I can remember wearing her fur coats and sequined tops every Christmas. Not to mention the numerous style shows that were put on from 5yrs old until graduating high school.
She loved it when we brought friends down to visit with us. She spent countless nights taking us on midnight boat rides, building tents and sitting around on the patio laughing.

She loved coming to Waco to visit us. She came for every piano and dance recital and would drive to watch me play volleyball when she could.

This photo captures Granny Liz just like I will always remember her. She had an amazing garden in the front of her house. She always had a hat or bandanna on with a pair of old ked tennis shoes that had no laces. (I love that you can see my grandad in the shadow taking the picture).

Of all the places on Earth, the lake is really my favorite place to be. 4 years ago, Josh and I got married there. It was so beautiful and so special to us. She made a champagne toast privately in the kitchen where she made us promise to always take care of each other.

We are so lucky to have such wonderful. loving grandparents. I don't know what all heaven has in store, but I imagine Granny Liz is up there dancing and looking down on us smiling.

Book Parade

This past week at school we had our book parade. The whole first grade dresses up like their favorite book character and marches through the school. It is always so fun. This year it was interesting coming up with a costume that fit.

I was dressed up like Mrs. Twinkle. A mouse from the book Chrysanthemum. She was her pregnant music teacher who loved Chrysanthemum's long name and saved the day. She too has a big smiley face on her belly.

Here is my class. They had to make a board that had the title and and illustration on the front. They looked pretty precious.

Quality time with Lila

I spent some quality time with Lila this weekend.

Lila was telling me about watching E Entertainment News with her Mom.

She cracked on Britney. "Oh no you dit'nt."

We took our first nap together.

We read the Wall Street Journal.

I gave her a baby message. "Help me help you. Help me help you."

Lila and I hit the gym. It's important to teach the children about the fitness.

Lila gets a high five after a tough set. Nice pump.

Painting and Football

This weekend Josh and I actually had nothing going on. I think this was the last one until she comes that we are both in town with no plans! I guess you could say this was the last one ever of just us two of us hanging out! Yikes that is crazy to think about! Luckily it was one of those Saturdays that you wish you always had. We woke up and got Buffalo Grill (the yummiest breakfast ever). Then we went and ran a couple arrands buying some things that we needed for the nursery. We were home by noon. Josh got to sit and watch football all day while I painted. I painted her book box, table and chair.

This was a magazine holder I found at Marshall's and painted.















We also found this precious table at Marshalls. It was bright red before we painted it.





















I love the detail around the top of the table.

This is a chair I found in Round Top last April with Kaki and Morgan. I had found out I was pregnant only the weekend before, so I was overexcited to buy something for the baby! It was forest green when we started. I think I am going to put a big "L" on the seat of the chair.

Her room is coming together day by day. Stay tuned to see more pictures of the finished nursery.

A Pretty New Outfit!

This past weekend my sisters and mom helped me pick out Lila's coming home outfit. Granny Liz wanted to buy it for her. We went to the crazy Galleria on a Saturday (something I never do). We found this precious sack at Strasburg Children.

I love how it ties at the bottom. She will look just perfect in it.

Thank you Granny Liz for the sweet outfit. I can't wait to see the tiny body that will soon be in it!

"L" Baby Shower

This weekend I had a wonderful baby shower in Houston at my friend Shannon's house

My mom and my sisters came in town to help me celebrate! We had such a good time.

I am so glad that they got to meet some of my friends here in Houston. We had so much fun decorating the nursery, shopping and just hanging out sans boys.

The shower's theme was "L" for Lila. This is a precious framed letter beside the guest book.

This is a sweet picture of Josh and me as babies. I wonder who Lila will look like?

The table was filled with lots of yummy treats and cupcakes detailed with L's on top. (Thanks Annesa)!

This clothesline is SO cute! I love the little dress on the left and the messenger bag on the right. Also, of course the L bib! All of these fabrics are perfect.
